Ambulance Crew Takes Detour for Dying Patient to See the Ocean

Two Australian paramedics are being hailed as heroes after they granted a dying woman’s wish to see the ocean one last time. Graeme Cooper and Danielle Kellan were transporting the woman to a hospital last week when she expressed a desire to see Hervey Bay, close to Fraser Island. A photo posted to Queensland Ambulance Service’s Facebook page shows Cooper standing next to the patient in her gurney by the seaside. Cooper also filled a bag with sand and water, so that the woman could reach in to feel and smell the beach. “She actually tasted the salt water,” Cooper said. He added that he had no idea at the time that the photo was being taken and that he was simply treating the woman like she was a family member.
