‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Underperforms With $40 Million Opening

Joker: Folie à Deux fell short of expectations with a domestic opening of $40 million, earning the first D CinemaScore for a Hollywood comic book movie. In contrast, the original Joker was a surprise success, grossing $743 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time. The Wild Robot stayed strong in its second weekend, securing second place with $18.7 million domestically and surpassing $100 million globally. In its fifth weekend, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice exceeded $400 million in earnings, while Transformers One earned $5.4 million domestically in its third weekend. Speak No Evil rounded out the top five with $2.8 million. (THR)
