Pat Tillman’s Mom Complains About Prince Harry Receiving Namesake Award

ESPN is facing criticism for honoring Prince Harry with the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the upcoming 2024 ESPYS, most notably from Tillman’s mother, Mary. The award, named after the late NFL star and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman, seeks to honor individuals with a strong connection to sports and service. While acknowledging that “not everyone will agree” with the selection, ESPN defended the decision, citing the “incredible work” of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Foundation.

Mary Tillman expressed her shock and concern over the selection of the “controversial and divisive” Prince Harry, stating that there are “recipients that are far more fitting” within the veteran community who “do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege” that Harry enjoys. She also noted that she was not consulted about the award recipient. The ESPYS are set for July 11, 2024. (Us Weekly)
