Roman Polanski No Longer Going on Trial in L.A. Over Alleged 1973 Rape of Minor

Roman Polanski will no longer face trial in Los Angeles in 2025 for the alleged rape of a minor in 1973, as the case has been settled and formally dismissed to the satisfaction of both parties. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, accused Polanski of raping an underage girl who had passed out at his home after he gave her tequila. The acclaimed director of films like Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown, a fugitive from the U.S. since 1978, had denied the claims and would not have attended the trial in person. This development comes after previous unsuccessful efforts to extradite him back to the U.S. Polanski had also recently been acquitted in a defamation trial in Paris over allegations of sexually assaulting a woman when she was 16.
