$1.65 million grant to help local Legal Aid group
A local group that provides free legal aid to low-income residents will be receiving benefits from a more than $1.65 million grant from the Indiana Bar Foundation.
The foundation has announced $4.4 million in grants to organizations around the state that provide legal help for low income Hoosiers
Pro Bono Indiana received the grant to support its offices around the state including River Valley Legal Aid in Columbus. Legal Aid provides clinics for low-income residents of its district to receive legal advice and assistance. Those who take part have a brief consultation with a volunteer attorney to answer general questions, to offer legal information or to receive other advice over the phone.
The local legal aid offers many volunteer opportunities for attorneys including clinics, virtual sessions, by phone or online, and placements to assist low income and vulnerable Hoosiers with civil legal services.
