Chase ends after motorcyclist thrown off of overpass
A motorcyclist is in critical condition after a crash involving a police chase near Interstate 65 in Johnson County last night.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called in to assist the Whiteland Police Department after the crash last night at about 6:40 p.m. Whiteland police attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling east on Whiteland Road. Police say that the motorcycle began to weave in and out of traffic fleeing from law enforcement.
As the chase approached the Interstate 65 overpass, a driver attempted to pull off the side of the road on the overpass to get out of the way, but the fleeing motorcyclist crashed into the rear passenger side of the vehicle. He was thrown from the bike and off the overpass, landing on the southbound shoulder of the interstate below.
The cyclist, identified as 31-year-old Dustin Ammerman of Franklin was taken to IU Methodist Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car was not injured.
