Authorities say that a drunk driver with children in her vehicle crashed into the rear of a tow truck Sunday night in Jennings County.

According to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened on State Road 7 near Jennings County Road 250S at about 7:14 p.m. Sunday. Deputies found that a car had rear-ended the tow-truck while both were headed northbound on the highway.

The car suffered serious front end damage and a 4-year-old and 11-year-old in the vehicle suffered injures and were taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for treatment. The driver of the tow truck was uninjured.

The driver of the car, Carrie Duke of Lexington showed signs of intoxication, police say. She was also taken to the hospital for her injuries and then was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a minor under the age of 14 present, neglect of a dependent child causing injuries and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment.

The sheriff’s department reports several recent crashes with serious injuries that were related to alcohol or other intoxicants. Over the course of 36 hours last weekend, deputies arrested five people for driving while intoxicated.
