Domestic dispute turns into 3-hour standoff in Jennings

A domestic disturbance in Jennings County Monday evening turned into a three hour standoff with an armed suspect.

According to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to a home in Marion Township after a woman called for help, saying she had been assaulted and that the suspect was brandishing a firearm inside the residence.

Deputies on scene attempted to communicate with the suspect, 58-year-old Roger Godsey of Commiskey using a loudspeaker but he refused to leave the home. Instead he briefly appeared in a doorway several times and ignored commands from officers.

After being granted a search warrant, the Jennings County SWAT team was activated. Several distraction devices were used and eventually Godsey came onto the front porch, but still refused to comply. Department police dog Axel was used to take him into custody.

After being checked by paramedics, Godsey was taken to jail on preliminary charges of criminal confinement, domestic battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement.
